Hand And Wrist Injuries
Regenerative Cell Therapy And PRP Treatments

Stop the pain, frustration and dysfunction without surgery and start living better today.

SCHEDULE A CONSULTATION

You use your hands all day, every day. Pain from hand and wrist injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome and osteoarthritis can make even the simplest tasks daunting – and your favorite activities nearly impossible.

We understand how difficult everyday life can be when you’re suffering from pain or reduced range of motion. Targeted biologics like regenerative cell and PRP treatments can help you boost your body’s natural healing process and help you on your way to renewed health and wellness.

Commonly Treated Hand And Wrist Injuries

  • Wrist or Hand Arthritis
  • CMC (Carpometacarpal or Thumb) Joint Arthritis
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Trigger Finger
  • Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex (TFCC) Tear
  • Repetitive Strain Injury

Alternatives To Hand And Wrist Surgery

There are short-term treatment options for hand and wrist injuries, including icing and resting, wearing a brace, or taking NSAIDs, (such as ibuprofen and aspirin), and steroid injections. We now know that NSAIDs and steroids not only prevent healing but cause further tissue damage. Surgery may be a longer-term solution; however, side effects may include numbness, persistent or increased pain, reduced motion, and infection.

At the Albano Clinic, we look for less invasive methods before resorting to surgery. Alternative solutions, such as regenerative cell and PRP treatments, can help you get back to everyday life and the activities you love – without the risk and complications associated with surgery.

A Better Solution For Osteoarthritis

Wrist, hand or thumb arthritis is common and can appear early in life, especially with our increased daily activity with smartphones, laptop trackpads and computer mouse use. If left untreated, this acutely painful disease can quickly become debilitating, making everyday life an unbearable chore.

If you are suffering from wrist, hand or thumb arthritis, over time you may lose even more range of motion and find yourself in even more pain. Many people with osteoarthritis believe surgery is inevitable.

Targeted biologics, however, can help improve your condition by supercharging your body’s natural healing process. Precisely placed regenerative cell and PRP injections are a non-invasive treatment option that can give you back your range of motion and make your wrist or hand pain a thing of the past – and help you to get back to the life you’ve been missing.

Start Living Better Today

I not only had the worst case of arthritis in both my wrists, but I also had carpal tunnel. I was a mess!~ Carol Smith

Carol Thought She’d Never Work Again

Carol had been extremely active: she skied and golfed regularly, and even mountain biked across Europe. She enjoyed an independent lifestyle, but after years of using her wrists to brace her falls, her arthritis had really taken over. She no longer could lift a plate, get dressed, type, or use her mouse, and she had to have her daughter help her with daily tasks. She wanted her independence back and she had heard coworkers talk about regenerative medicine therapy. “Dr. Albano gave me back my freedom and I can’t thank him enough. I was looking at having my wrists fused and I just knew that was not an option.”

FAQs

Will my condition need one round of injections or more? Expand

The answer depends on many different variables, as no two injuries or conditions are alike. The severity of the injury, your activity level and your ultimate health goals all play a part in determining the number of treatments necessary.

Do you want to run ultramarathons? Or sit on the floor to play with your grandchildren? On average, our patients receive one to three rounds of injections. Often, one round of injections is enough to help our patients return to their regular activities.

In a normal course of treatment, we do one round of injections and wait until you reach a plateau in your improvement (normally about four months post-treatment). At that point, we determine together if you’ve reached your recovery goal. If there is still room for improvement, we may recommend another round of injections.

How soon will I start feeling better? When can I return to normal activity? Expand

This depends on the severity of your condition and the level of activity that is “normal” for you. Typically, there is an increase in pain for two weeks after the procedure, as your body’s natural inflammatory response goes to work healing your damaged tissue. Everyone heals at different rates, however, and the process could take longer or shorter than two weeks.

The healing process isn’t strictly linear, either. It is more like a roller coaster – there are good days and bad days. You should see measurable improvement after four months and an overall improvement in your quality of life by the end of the healing process.

What is the difference between regenerative cell and PRP (platelet rich plasma) treatments? Expand

Regenerative cells are usually harvested from a patient’s healthy bone marrow. To harvest PRP, we draw your blood and then concentrate the platelets. We then precisely inject the cells and concentrated platelets into the damaged area, and both biologics go to work to help repair the damaged tissues.

We typically use both regenerative cells and PRP when treating patients, however, there are times when we use just PRP. Every treatment plan varies according to the individual needs of our patients.

Where exactly are these regenerative cells obtained? Expand

We work with two different types of cells. The first type of cell comes from your own healthy bone marrow. There are many living stem cells in these tissues

The second type of cell does not come from your body. These tissues contain healthy growth factors that boost your body’s natural healing mechanisms. Typically discarded, these tissues are gathered safely and ethically and no babies are harmed in the process.
