Knee Injuries Regenerative Cell Therapy And PRP Treatments

Stop the pain, frustration and dysfunction without surgery and start living better today.

SCHEDULE A CONSULTATION

Debilitating knee pain and injury can drastically affect how you live your life. Unfortunately, knee injuries are extremely common in active people and treatments can be complex. Injuries to your meniscus, ACL or MCL ligaments, cartilage, and chronic pain from arthritis or past knee injuries can keep you from your active lifestyle.

Thanks to the natural healing power of biologics, regenerative cells, and PRP therapies could be the best treatment to get you feeling better and moving better – and back to the activities, you love.

Commonly Treated Knee Injuries

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Meniscal Tears
  • Patellofemoral Syndrome or Chondromalacia
  • MCL Tear
  • ACL Tear
  • Patellar or Quadriceps Tendinitis

Alternatives To Knee Surgery

More often than not, surgeries like arthroscopic procedures or knee joint replacement are seen as the only option – even though knee surgery comes with a set of risks and several months of rehab just to return you to your basic fitness level.

At the Albano Clinic, we take a whole-body approach to improving your overall wellness by looking first to reduce weight, provide physical therapy and then apply customized, targeted biologics to help you avoid invasive surgery. When it comes to knee injuries, reducing the load on your injured knee through modest weight loss can result in drastic improvements.

Instead of invasive surgery, we look to supercharge your body’s own natural healing process through precisely placed regenerative cells and PRP. These treatments can help you heal faster and more completely, without the risks of surgery.

A Better Solution For Knee Meniscal Tears

If you’re suffering from a meniscal tear, you’re not alone. A torn meniscus is one of the most common knee injuries, especially among active people. As we age, the meniscus can degenerate, which can lead to a meniscal tear.

The traditional course of treatment for meniscal tears involves removing a portion of the meniscus in arthroscopic surgery. While this may temporarily relieve symptoms, after a partial meniscectomy, there is:

  • a 100% increase in medial compartment contact stress,
  • a 300% increase in lateral compartment contact stress,
  • 6X the risk of future osteoarthritis and
  • 3X the risk of future knee replacement.

If you prefer to avoid the increased risk of a total knee replacement, we have found a better solution: targeted biologics. Our customized regenerative cell and PRP injections may help you not only avoid surgery and long recovery but also get you back to doing what you love and feeling even stronger than before your injury. These targeted injections encourage your body’s powerful and natural healing process to do what it does best – heal you from the inside out.

Start Living Better Today

I came in to Dr. Albano for the PRP/regenerative cells and that knee turned out fabulous. Just like a regular old knee, whereas my right knee that I had scoped is giving me some trouble now.~ Matt Sansom

Comparing Knees: Orthobiologics Treatment Better Than Surgery

After the successful treatment of rotator cuff tears in both shoulders, Matt Sansom came back to the Albano Clinic to treat his left knee injury. His right knee had been scoped previously – and he could really feel the difference between the results of each treatment.

FAQs

Will my condition need one round of injections or more? Expand

The answer depends on many different variables, as no two injuries or conditions are alike. The severity of the injury, your activity level and your ultimate health goals all play a part in determining the number of treatments necessary.

Do you want to run ultramarathons? Or sit on the floor to play with your grandchildren? On average, our patients receive one to three rounds of injections. Often, one round of injections is enough to help our patients return to their regular activities.

In a normal course of treatment, we do one round of injections and wait until you reach a plateau in your improvement (normally about four months post-treatment). At that point, we determine together if you’ve reached your recovery goal. If there is still room for improvement, we may recommend another round of injections.

How soon will I start feeling better? When can I return to normal activity? Expand

This depends on the severity of your condition and the level of activity that is “normal” for you. Typically, there is an increase in pain for two weeks after the procedure, as your body’s natural inflammatory response goes to work healing your damaged tissue. Everyone heals at different rates, however, and the process could take longer or shorter than two weeks.

The healing process isn’t strictly linear, either. It is more like a roller coaster – there are good days and bad days. You should see measurable improvement after four months and an overall improvement in your quality of life by the end of the healing process.

What is the difference between regenerative cell and PRP (platelet rich plasma) treatments? Expand

Regenerative cells are usually harvested from a patient’s healthy bone marrow. To harvest PRP, we draw your blood and then concentrate the platelets. We then precisely inject the cells and concentrated platelets into the damaged area, and both biologics go to work to help repair the damaged tissues.

We typically use both regenerative cells and PRP when treating patients, however, there are times when we use just PRP. Every treatment plan varies according to the individual needs of our patients.

Where exactly are these regenerative cells obtained? Expand

We work with two different types of cells. The first type of cell comes from your own healthy bone marrow. There are many living stem cells in these tissues

The second type of cell does not come from your body. These tissues contain healthy growth factors that boost your body’s natural healing mechanisms. Typically discarded, these tissues are gathered safely and ethically and no babies are harmed in the process.
